The author of this theoretical paper decided to embark on this discourse, which falls within the confined of the current and future trends in open and distance and electronic learning environment in Nigeria. In the paper, the importance of open and distance and electronic learning environment was critically discussed with particular emphasis on issues relating to educational effectiveness, accessibility and inclusivity. The disadvantages of open and distance and electronic learning environment was also discussed in the paper. The the current and future trends in open and distance and electronic learning environment was also looked at in the paper. The application of learning management systems in open and distance and electronic learning environment was also discussed in the paper. The application of artificial intelligence in open and distance and electronic learning environment was further discussed in the paper. Logical conclusions were highlighted and suggestions for future practices were further enumerated.
